when you wait. either for a pc port and/or the enhancement made by mods. don't expect 3rd party devs to put effort in an optimal high end pc port on release though. especially not for 60$ or less.

Mod enhanements (for games that support them) usually happen the week or two of release. Look at FFXIII and Dark Souls. I have no problem waiting a week to play a game. Heck, half my PS3 games didn't work to my standards without patches and I'm sure it is more true for PS4/XBO games. So it's not like consoles avoid this issue either. I really don't care about enhanced ports. The thing about PC's is that you can enhance the port yourself, right out of the box. Developers add an easy feature called scaling the performance and visuals to your platform.

ps3 was pretty complicated to develop for and not very popular so it's no wonder games had performance issues in the beginning of it's lifecycle. but as time moved on devs learned how to deal with the hardware and issues declined. with the ps4 this trend should even happen faster due to it's common architecture and popularity. but for high end 4k rigs, which some people might be tempted to upgrade in the near future, i predict the trend of crappy ports is only getting worse.
