Plus most criminals get released much earlier than their sentence for good behaviour. 


Well, there is this thing called "life without parole". People released early were paroled, and they aren't completely out of the system, since they still have to deal with things such as limitations on what they can own/do, and parole officers. There's also the matter of career: most companies won't be willing to hire a murderer. Or any felon for that matter.
