1 - Follow the original story!
2 - Keep the original battle system (no stupid battle system similar to open world games like Wolrd of Warcraft, this ruined the series for me)
3 - Keep a visual style that is in line with the original (obviously with more details/polygons etc.
.... I would probably even like pre-rendered backgrounds like in the old days (obvislly again rendered at an high enough resolution with with up to date assets)
and KEEP the music intact!
... voice overs or sub titles? though choice....
