Third person perspective has more advantages as you can see your surroundings better. You won't be competitive in BF III if you're in FPS mode.

Only advantages that TPS has is peeking around corners and not being visible to the enemy and overall awarness due to a larger field of view which are very good advantages but when it comes to a gun fight, FPS will be superior along with flying. I will probably run TPS when not in battle but once shit goes down, FPS will be the way to go. But in the end it's all about preference.
