Actually, it's not a downgrade from a technical standpoint. The waves are more demanding, the textures better. What has changed for better or worse (depending on the location probably) is their lighting. In some of these images it robs the scenes of depth and atmosphere. In others it seems to enhance it. It's a design choice really. And some people are going to hate it :P
