I remember wanting to just finish the story for a long long time and I didn't care what that meant at the time but now that its been announced in this way and the more I think about it. I don't want a game thats just finishing the story because I loved and played Shenmue for a lot more things than just the story and I honestly don't want to be disappointed by a game that couldn't fully be realised because it wasn't properly funded.

Sony should be praised for what they did at E3 regarding the game even if it may have been for slightly selfish reasons related to PR but all this talk about them doing nothing but covering the marketing costs is the wrong way to go about it. I don't think many people other that those those dedicated to the franchise and those funding it through kickstarter are going to be buying it. I honestly don't care if it sells like crap again, I just want to play Shenmue 3 again so the marketing costs to me are worthless unless they are spent solely on promoting the kickstarter campaign and I'm sure a lot of Shenmue fans feel this way. There is minimal risk involved at present if we are paying for the majority of the development through kickstarter so why is there a need to only spend money on marketing to get even more sales? I just don't get that.

Sony is financing the PS4 version.

From videos I watched regarding the financing from Sony, it only covered the marketing. The development for the PS4 version being covered was nothing more than the media getting it absolutely wrong. Sony are putting nothing towards the PS4 version at present other than the marketing which Adam Boyes explained.
