I have to wonder exactly where they're going to get the money for the rest of the development, though. The original games cost quite a bit of money to make, and Shenmue III must cost an exponential amount two generations later. |
If Shenmue was made as is with today's tools, it wouldn't cost nearly as much.
They had to build everything from scratch back then, since engines like Cry and U4 didn't exist. Everything had to be meticulously crafted by hand.

Game costs have gone up, not down since the first Shenmue. There's no way this game can be made with a $2.000.000 budget. It's pretty obvious this game is being funded by a big publisher(s) and the most likely candidate is Sony.
Big companies using KS is despicable if you ask me. But I guess some companies can do no wrong in the eyes of some fans.

No one is denying that the game can't be made and meet the first two games standard with only 2M.
Now, Sony isn't the one using Kickstarter. Ys Net is. Try to inform yourself about the project before passing that kind of baseless comments.

Yeah, I'm sure they have the money to fund a large part of this game...
They don't though.
Like I said, Sony is the most likely candidate. They announced the KS on their E3 event and it's console exclusive to PS4. Marketting budget is also usually the most expensive part of developing games these days.
It's obvious to me that Sony is the biggest funder of this game.
