It was a good idea for them to try it but ultimately it will fail due to the differences in system architecture. It's too big a hurdle for them to handle effectively.

The plus point in all this though is that you'd like to imagine that this will be the last time consoles have this problem. With this generation finally going down the hardware route of PC's more or less, you'd think this trend will continue to allow for developers to have an easier time of it and also to allow cross development between consoles and PC's at the same time.

This "should" allow for much easier backwards compatibility in future generations. Its just a shame that this one won't ever work properly.
