#6. Thou shalt not pad the length of your games.

I disagree with that. I like my games to have a decent length. If the basic game mechanic is fun I have no problem with some repetition. If its too much its of course bad but I won't buy another 6hour game like Heavenly Sword for more than 20$.

The author of the article was talking about games that add mandatory fetch quests and/or pad the length of the game with long stretches of nothingness between objectives, not repitition.

Still, I think the best way to handle repitition is the way that Super Mario Galaxy did: by making all of the repetitive content optional. That way, people like me who dislike repitition can give it a pass, and those who want to extend the game's playtime can tackle all of the optional objectives that require backtracking/collectathons/whatever.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."
