It has a better story than FFVI. Material system was surprisingly deep with how you can configure the strongest materias (final attack, revive, double attack, etc...)
It also has more side quests than any other FFs - snowboarding, bike riding, submarine, the shooting gallery in the theme park, the arena, chocoholic breeding. There was just so much do.
The music was also the best.
