It appears that we have a lot of the same tastes. Only instead of the PS2, the Game Cube was by far my favorite that generation! ;)
Let me by clear by stating that last gen my favorite console was the 360. This gen it is the PS4 and there is no contest about that. The games are better IMO and they play and run a lot smoother. The install times are faster and the PS4 controller is 100x better imo. I find the XBO controller to be very uncomfortable, which is surprising because I like the 360 controller and didn't care much for the PS3's. The rumble however is very cool on the XBO and the new elite controller is looking to address a few of my complaints, I need to have a hands on before I can finalize that opinion. Also another one of my favorite functions of the 360 was the ability to play music in the background straight off of my computer and now only the PS4 can do that as the of the past couple of days.
Thanks to all the shift in focus of multimedia and games between the two companies I have a very odd stance:
I feel that the PS4 feels like an evolution of the 360, and the XBO an evolution of the PS3!
Yeah I know.... that makes A LOT of sense -_-
Now lets take a look at the notable exclusive titles: (Only released by or before December)
PS4:
BloodBorne (this one is fantastic)
InFamous Second Son
Killzone: Shadow Fall (Not sure if this one in particular will appeal to you)
The Order of 1886 (I don't care what people say, it was innovative and fantastic)
Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection (Remake but may have some changes)
Ratchet & Clank (supposedly coming out 2015)
Persona 5
No Man's Sky (also coming to PC)
Until Dawn (50/50 here)
The Last of Us Remastered (remake)
XBO:
Halo V: Guardians
Halo Master Chief Collection (hardly works online....)
Sunset Overdrive
Titanfall (also on PC)
Dead Rising 3
Rise of the Tomb Raider (timed but a must play)
Fable Legends (Skeptical)
Crackdown (Skeptical and did not like the others (Personally))
There are fair few a I left out but these are some examples. Both will have great third party games that are shared between both consoles and they will both have their advantages and disadvantages. The PS4 seems to be getting a lot more free exclusive content for third party games, something that should be considered. The online quality between the two consoles is a lot less than people will lead you to believe and isn't like last gen where XBL curb stomped PSN. Looking forward and into next year it seems that the PS4 has the best exclusives by a long shot. Horizon Zero Dawn and Uncharted 4 looks AMAZING and it appears Sony is hold a lot of game reveals back. 2015 may have been a weaker year for Sony's first party releases but next year looks stunning and overwhelming. That is only the tip of the iceberg. The XBO has a few great looking games as well such as Quantum Break and Gears 4.
In the end I feel I have only barely touched the surface between the two consoles but I would say that the PS4 is the clear winner and debatably the only choice this gen. Between the PS4 and Wii U, I can't possibly see how you would have enough time to play all the great games on those consoles, yet alone a third.
