Sony has just confirmed that now that the Kickstarter goal has been reached they are in fact helping with funding and development of Shenmue 3

So there you have it everyone, you can stop getting all upset over this:

"But it's a Sega IP and of course Suzuki Yu-san is the creator. So somehow Suzuki-san was able to work out with Sega to allow them to Kickstart the project."

Kickstarter was something worked out between Yu and Sega, prior to Sony's involvement. They may have had conditions associated with it's funding on Kickstarter, but the concept was drawn up elsewhere.
