I certainly hope it was an apology. Nintendo needs to admit when they've made bad calls. Earlier this year, Iwata proclaimed that Nintendo hadn't been "backed into a corner" on mobile development. The comment was totally unprompted and made the company look foolish. Everyone makes mistakes and it is childish to pretend otherwise. If this attitude is rooted in the Japanese honor system, Nintendo has to realize it makes them look like a five year who "is never wrong and always comes up with the greatest ideas all on their own - with no help at all."
