Feels a little pretentious.

I get them not wanting to dictate the rules of the game, and letting everyone explore on their own. But I'd like to know more details on what is possible, what mechanics there are. Trading was mentioned, it's the first time I've heard about it and these are the details I'd like. Destructible environments are a nice feature, but what is the purpose? How does destroying structures affect the game?

I agree hat there shouldn't be achievements for a game like this, it would go directly against the creator's vision by giving a shopping list of things that need to be done for the trophy-whore's platinum.

When you destroy parts of the world you obtain resources. Those resources are then used to upgrade your ship and equipment. Once you upgrade your ship you can fly further out into the universe or closer to the centre of the universe. When you upgrade your equipment you can visit more planets with hostile environments such as gas or acidic waters. Taking too many resources leads to the sentinals (on some planets) attacking you to protect that planet. As you get closer to the centre of the universe the planets get more hostile and the creatures get more strange, but you don't have to do that, you can simply explore deep under the earth in caverns and tunnels, or swim to the bottom of vast oceans. You will need to do this at times to find the rarer resources. You can trade your resources at space stations or you can attack the space stations to take what you want but that puts up your wanted level. At first your wanted level will be low so you'll just get attacked by the occasional police force but if you persist you could end up batting a whole fleet of smaller ships surrounding a bigger police station. You can attack freight ships to take resources too or protect it when it gets attacked. This could lead to becoming part of a faction and gaining help from them in the future. There's more but that will do.

I get all that, but I just don't see why I should care after the novelty wears off.

What i want to know is are there people to talk to?  Do they gives quests or requests?  Can I go on the main ship that is having a battle and ask someone who they are fighting and why.  Can I actually join sides and do something meaningful?

Feels like I'm just collecting resources to build ship ect to go to new planet and rinse and repeat to try and get to the center of galaxy.  Not talking to anyone ever.  Scanning animals and/or plants for no reason that I can see.  If I'm in space I randomly shoot enemies just for fun.

IDK, just feels like I'll visit like 10-12 planets and then be like "why am i doing this"  I need something to make me care, some connection emotionally or something.  It just feels like a mobil game otherwise, wher eyou basically just collecting resources and building, but in this case building is your ship to travel.
