Sony rather than funding Shenmue 3 screwed their fans by having them kick start the games. This kick starter while gauging interest is also reducing Sony overall risk and increasing their future profit. While at the same time receiving a major marketing boost for being connect to Shenmue 3. Kickstarter was meant to be use by small developer with the support of fan to produce a game that would never of seen the light of day. Now a big corporation like Sony is abusing the nature of kick starter to increase their profit and reduce their risks. I think this move actually set a very bad precedent.
The big winner is not the fans. It’s Sony. Free marketing and increase profit and potential earnings. The kick starter is probably going to raise like 4-5 million dollars these funds are sunk funds that on guarantee that the project will get started. None of that money will yell any future earnings or have any quality guarantee. |
