since I am a real sports fan that appreciates nfl, nba, nhl, mlb and NATIONAL soccer, I'll tell you.
Firstly, there are too many gotdam leagues. We need a single clear cut league where the best of the best play i.e NBA. we dont need epl bundesliga italian etc. If possible, each nation should have its own team with the best players possible. ie England Lions, Spain Armada Italy Tigers etc. Theres a few reasons world cup is very popular in U.S and its bc theres a perception of superior quality vs league play, and also countries are easily indentifiable moreso than 'real madrid' or 'man u' which , no offense, americans can give two shits about. If its a world sport bigger than all, then it should always have contry representation, whether league or world cup competition.
And one more thing - shrink the field a bit and force the action. american sports fans appreciate speed, skill power and action. Not suggesting anything drastic but the field should be cropped a bit and lets just say substitutions rules etc should move closer to hockey style (no more red card nonsense, have power playspenalty box instead).
Follow my ideas and soccer would have its status elevated to a major US sport. right now its worse than golf and tennis status lol.
