Actually I feel I should make one more point about the wealth vs happiness tangent. There is a lot of evidence that people who are desperatly poor will be happier with more money up to a certain point. Essentially once you can guarantee a roof over your head, clothes on your back, and food in your stomach your happiness starts to hit a period of diminishin returns. That is, the increase in happiness asscoiated with a rise from 10k a year to 50k a year is probably greater than the happiness increase associated with going from 50k a year to 150k a year. There are short term increases in happiness asscoiated with any large windfall, but those eventually fade away.
