I would imagine the game is kickstarter by the developers choice as it allows them full control over the game and also to retain all rights to distribution and the IP... If Sony funded the game then they would have more say on what happens with the game and not all developers want that!
Can't believe it's almost at target already and it's only been 8hrs...
