Sales in Japan will be fine. What was needed was the attention of the west and what better place to do that than at E3?... which they didn't.

Fair enough, I can agree with this. I know Persona has a fairly hardcore fanbase in the west. Though it is smaller, hell I never even heard of the series until 2011. Sad thing is I've been a hardcore gamer since 1998ish and I've been gaming since the early 90's (I was really yonge then, started at 3 LOL) So I suppose that says something in my mind.
