Actually, what happened was Square made The Spirits Within and lost 100 million dollars on it. That put Sakaguchi in the dog house at Square and because they weren't big enough to take such a loss they sold off part of their business to Sony and then merged with Enix. Sakaguchi decided to leave rather than work on nothing projects while being in the dog house.

Yes yes, I know about all that.

Spin-offs, remakes and FFs aside, SE developed and published games are actually good. They are practically (recent exception is Dawn of Mana, yuck) always very good reviewed. The difference with the old Squaresoft is that they don´t reach the status of "legendary" yet. Spin-offs turn out bad most of the times, however remakes and ports are always a hit for me, as they stay true to the original and enrich it.

Ah yes, Sigma Harmonics! That mystery/puzle-solving-RPG mix that was announced some time ago. It looks really promising. Most likely it will turn out a hit like TWEWY.
