I don't get the point of free DLC...why can't they just release that DLC content as part of the original game? 

DLC is an easy way to:

1- Make more money... in this case fuck 'em.

2-  A secure way to profit or at least break even after a game releases... in this case can't really blame them for tryong not to tank... but fuck 'em
