From what I've read, Youtube works ok in the browser, while Netflix doesn't.

Of course, for devices like Vita and PS TV, browsers don't compare to the speed and ease of use of a dedicated app.  Smart phones would not be where they are today if it weren't for the app.  And, sadly, PS TV was sent out in a world of app guns with nothing but a few app knives.
