I did and platinum'ed it! It was interesting and challenging game.
You may wanna play on easy difficulty first and learn some tactics because it can be tricky sometimes like playing chess.
But once you get a grip it will be a breeze and very fun actually.
The story is very good but the characters are well-developed and very fun to control them. You have swordsmen, gunners, sorcerers and a lot more.
I highly recommend this if you're interested in T-RPG. Just.....don't read the reviews, they're bollocks

It's weird. When I watch gameplay videos I think the game looks exactly how you describe it (fun tactical gameplay; interesting story elements; lots of choice) but then I read reviews and they ripped it a new one.
The common thing I see for it is that the difficulty is tough and there's not many tutorials for it, though. So I'll have to read up on it first.
Thanks for the recommendation. Think I will get it after all.

I think Natural Doctrine is a classic example of most reviewers not really understanding what they are reviewing.
S-RPGs are not a massmarket genre. They shouldn't be reviewed to those expectations. The audience generally know what they want and I know quite a few S-RPG fans and they are all positive about the game.
It's the "Warriors" thing all over again. Dynasty Warriors generally struggles to score about 6/10 in reviews, but again, the audience know what they want.
