It could work only in one case: if the virtual road were the same as the real one the car is travelling through, and if both the real and virtual trips were synchronized. Might as well drive that damn real car instead of the virtual one.
Actually it could be a way to drive armoured vehicles without windows for increased security and lower weight, IIRC it's already a method used to drive unmanned military vehicles.
