I have a friend who really isn't into it, but had to play in the heroes of the dorm tournament since his league of legends team made him do it.
The way he described it was that Heroes of the Storm is to League of Legends in the same way that Hearthstone is to Yugioh. Essentially, League and DOTA maintain far more skill and complications in game, whereas Hearthstone and HotS are two dumbed down games in their respective genre meant to appeal to all forms of casuals. He does not like them too much and thinks they lack skill, but he does acknowledge Blizzard's business decision.
I personally have not played the game, but I think it looks cool
