Except it kind of is a business, not a charity. Of course Platinum would like to by a Nintendo 2nd party. They are a studio on shaky financial ground that has to grovel to get funding from project to project. Being an official Nintendo 2nd party would mean that they would have stable gaurunteed funding from a billion dollar company that they have a good working relationship with. I mean would you rather have a job where you were on contract and could be let go any time, or would rather have a full time position where you're gaurunteed a salary and benefits? The game development landscape is harsh these days. |
Agreed. It's just refreshing to see a publisher take these risk with a smaller studio for the sake of good games, rather than constantly thinking "Nope, it won't sell". If The Wondeful 102 turns out to be a thing, then good for it's smaller fanbase and good for Platinum/Nintendo for once again taking a risk on a good game that wasn't appreciated by many.
