I mean, it's a no brainer that the overwrold would look vast and colorful. Do you expect nature to look gothic? /facepalm

The city in which those "gothic" scenes take place are still pretty much the same. You're blowing shit out of proportions, as far as I see it.
As for the mood, we barely had anything to base anything on when the game was Versus, and they used the same scenes over and over in every trailers. Giving you the idea that the whole game was going to be like this. Well, sorry... It doesn't all take place in that one city, during that one night.
