Most of those scenes are still in XV, still during the night. Some of them have now been rendered in-engine instead of CGI but their tone is still the same.
Back then, we had barely any footage of the game. Seems like you and this guy from the video expected the whole game to take place during the night, in that one city that looks a bit gothic.
I don't see this change of tone you speak of. What I see though is a lot of footage that aren't as dark as those scenes, because it's a Final Fantasy game, not Batman, and not everything will take place during the night.

No, if you've been following the entire discussion, I don't base it on nighttime and during that attack.. I was hoping that example would shed some light, but too bad you don't see it.
