It Puzzles me but your not the only person that I have encountered that feels that way. I hope a few games comes along that makes you feel like the heyday has returned.
I believe it's an indication that there are many different types of gamers, that's all. You might be surprised to find that women are a much larger portion of the gaming market than most people are aware for example. They're generally not buying the same games that you are of course. Check out sales of games like Bejeweled or The Sims. I also know people, men and women, who get more excited over card/casino titles than anything else. Some titles that some of us wouldn't even consider games sell very well. How about Deer Hunter? Worst... Game... Ever... But that's only my opinion. A number of people out there actually seem to like tracking deer feces, as several of them were produced.
Surely there's a lively hard core gamer market, but there are a large number of people who don't care for these types of games. The Wii seems to have a good chance to get these people into consoles, and as a parallel market it shouldn't really affect hard core game types at all. It even caters to retro gamers such as myself through the virtual console. I don't see why everyone can't be happy with their choice(s) and leave it at that.
