Well you need to consider the Resistance series was average at best and didn't deserve a big push. I played them all, handheld games included.
Personally I don't think Resistance is dead. It certainly has a following so maybe it needs a reboot.

"Average at best" is not at all how I would describe Resistance. Certainly not a franchise that sold millions per title and received review scores in the mid-80's. The multiplayer never really seemed to work but the single player of each title was really good. I just think it boils down to Insomniac not being interested in it anymore and Sony not wanting to shell out the cash for it right now to have another studio do it when they could be using that money to fund new IPs or continue franchises more popular and/or commercially successful.
