I actually like my PS4 more than my PS3. PS3 OS was too sluggish and not being able to open apps or the browser while playing was a PITA. PS4 is great with screenshots and video capture too.
Despite that, I think people are comparing PS4 with PS3 mid gen. Most new IPs from Sony came after the PS3 slim big push, that was 3 years down the road for PS3.
Anyway, you are a well know PC gamer on the forum (a "PC master race" sign also helps to identify), so it seems more oriented to your personal preferences and bias than to the console itself.
