According to Nightengale:

"With Verendus, it's better for your heart to focus on his near-term teases, than be too engrossed on his "late-gen" teases.

Of those he's teased that can be attributed to him and no other insider, SFV, Yakuza localisation, DQ spinoff (Heroes), FF spinoff (Dissidia) all have been true.

The next on the list is presumably JRPG#1 and #2."

I'm well aware how much games cost to make, or how much these deals cost with 3rd party publishers.

Let's not forget that Sony are the ones selling the vast majority of 3rd party software, they're planning for years on PS4, each year requires a slew of exclusives when we get into the meat of a generation and that's how Sony works, they build up steam at the beginning of the generation and then it's a constant stream of exclusives for their platforms, in a wide variety of genres, so they can draw in the biggest crowds of gamers.

This is exactly how they dominated in the PS1, PS2 days and why they caught up with the 360 so quickly last gen.

It's not realistic to think Sony wouldn't be going huge on exclusives, especially when they have huge revenue coming from 3rd party software sales, they definitely have the money for this kind of investment and they absolutely would capitalize on their position within the market.

I'm not saying all of Verrendus's predictions are going to pan out, even if he was the most solid and biggest fountain of real information about Sony's inner workings deals do change, projects get cut for whatever reasons.

I know some are exclusives, like I said the JRPGs are exclusive but you are saying all of those games are exclusive, and that is just ridiculous.

And I'm not doubting Verendus, I trust him. And I really really really really really really think you don't know how much games costs these days. Because if you did, you would see how much money that would cost and you'd realize what a crazy thing you said.

The majority of those games are Japanese, only a small amount on the whole are western publishers

Sony has an absolutely enormous market share this generation, with a massive install base for this early in the generation and not only are those things factually true, but they also undeniably sell a tonne more of those games than anyone else this generation, in order for Sony to buy exclusivity or get the ball rolling on such projects they largely only have to point out such things or lean on those facts when courting 3rd party.

Yes they still have to pay money for deals like everyone else would sure, but the figure probably wouldn't be anywhere near what it would be for another platform holder.

I'll say it again yes I am fully aware how much these deals cost, but you're clearly not aware of the kind of money that Sony would be getting on a yearly basis from 3rd party mulitplat sales, from PS+ subscriptions, PS Now, Vue, revenue being gained from the sales of indie titles, sales of their own exclusives, remasters generating income and the fact they're bringing in profit from PS4 hardware, I'm sure I'm missing some other revenue streams, but I think this is plenty to illustrate the point I'm making here.

The cost of these new exclusives is probably a drop in the ocean compared to how much they're making from all of the above paragraph and many of them will sell very well on PS4, some may be loss leaders, but they'll all have a unified effect in enormously growing PS4's install base or the potential future platform(s).

As I said it's not like all of those games are expected to drop in one year, they're an investment for the entire rest of the generation, maybe even some of those games will be released next gen, which only reinforces the need for more games over the long period.

There's nothing crazy about needing a load of exclusives 5+ years.
