I am actually unsure on this one. Sure, if you compare Persona 4: Golden and Xenoblade Chronicles' reviews at the time of their release, they were similarly glowing. But since their release, reception of the Persona series has grown out of control, whereas Xenoblade's reception seems to have stagnated, if not grown slightly more tepid. Of course, we'll be able to compare in a more intersubjective manner once reviews are out, but it is simply my prediction that Persona 5 will receive better reviews unless it is a complete letdown.
As a side note, I think the comparison between the Xeno series and the Persona series is quite relavant and interesting with regards to the future standard bearer of niche JRPGs. For a while, Xenogears was seen as the go-to cult JRPG classic. The Persona series and the Xeno series share a lot in common, mostly in how they approach Nietzche and Jungian psychology as themes. I think in many ways, Persona offers an evolution and refinement to Xenogears' story, whereas Monolith is focusing on expanding the exploration and gameplay that was present in Xenogears. It's just food for thought, and not particularly relevant to the topic at hand.
Anyway, predictions time. I'm going to go with 2.2 million for Persona 5 LTD among both versions. I think the first week for the regions will be stunning for a niche JRPG, and then we will see a shocking (95%) drop for the second week. However, glowing reviews and good word of mouth will allow it to maintain healthy legs.
