FFX is actually the first FF game I ever played and ironically, it's one of two mainline FFs that I still haven't beaten yet (The other being 3). When I first played FFX, I was actually very impressed and immersed with the world and the story that FFX offered. It felt unique and the cut scenes were eventful. The first time I played FFX, I was genuinely satisfied with the game.

However, that was over 10 years ago. My perception of the game has dropped significantly. I think the story is still serviceable but I don't enjoy the voice acting and don't care about the characters. Some of them are good like the clever ones (Auron and Lulu) but I don't care about Tidus or Wakka or Rikku, etc. I liked the idea of how the game portrays organized religion and I will argue that Tidus isn't all bad, especially considering he's taken out of his element and transported to a world 1000 years into the future where he has no idea what's going on (But he's still annoying..). Also, the voice syncing is mediocre and the character movements seem really stiff and unnatural. This may seem minor and is more attributed to limitations but considering the story is trying to take itself seriously, it's small moments like those that break the immersion.

The OST is very good but not my favorite in the series and I think the gameplay is rather good. It's smooth and very accessible. I did enjoy how easy it is to switch party members on the fly and I didn't mind the sphere grid. But for the most part, the turned based system has been done in previous FFs so it's not ground breaking but rather refined. For all those that compare FF10 to FF13, I can see why you would do that considering both games are linear and have a portion later in the game that opens up. However, I'll argue FFX did linearity better as it still felt like you were exploring a world unlike FFXIII, where it really did feel like a hallway for 3/4 of the game.

FFX is a middle of the road FF for me when considering the entire series. I enjoyed FFVI, VII, VIII, IX and XII more than X. However, I don't think it's a bad game by any means. It's good but flawed and does not hold a candle to other FFs, imo.
