One of the primary reasons is obviously that it is cheaper, as are the games. Also, the greater leaning toward casual games and the "innovation" of the controller both attract many. And of course it has Mario, Pokemon and Zelda games amongst other ridiculously good and well known first party offerings. Say what you want about Nintendo, that their games are repetitive, casual, but they make good games (for the most part lol).
