by the way a lot of the final fantasy characters are a bit irritating IMO, eventhough I like most of the games. In many cases I think the protagonists are in most cases very annoying!
Like: Squall, Zidane, Tidus, Cloud, Serah
But I would say: Sora from Kingdom Hearts
I'm sorry for this this because I really try to like him but I think he is so annoying!!!!! But still love the series

I don't agree with all of these names, but I can understand how a lot of these characters can rub people the wrong way. However, I'm puzzled over Zidane. He was the anti-anti-hero FF had been touting for some time. Instead of being a stoic, bland character like the two before him, Zidane had energy, optimism, and spunk. But he wasn't as annoying as Tidus who came after him.
Zidane was a good, balanced character, IMHO.

For Zidane, I agree that he was much better than Cloud and Squall and much much better then Serah. But I can't stop remembering that I always was annoyed with Zidane also in IX.
