How exactly is the following brutally honest:

" "Tudor said he sees the game regularly and he's impressed with where it's at. "It's got dynamic time of day, weather--it looks phenomenal," he said. "And the actual console itself is quite good.""?

So the game actually played well and looked good on Wii U at some point, but now it can't reach 23 fps? Why not resort to said earlier build? Brutally honest would have been telling people what really is happening throughout development rather than misleading them to think development is going well when it is not.

My understanding is that optimization (i.e. improving the frame rate) of a game is usually one of the later tasks in development. He never stated that the game was running and playing well with all of these features at 30fps at 720p. He was saying that we have these features included and was probably hopeful that they could optimize the performance later on. As it turns out, they are having much more trouble than antisipated optimizing the Wii U version, and will most likely deem it not worthwhile to continue.

ing ported to the system. Most games tend to be. I think it is delusional and deceptive to say the "the actual console itself is quite good" and talk about graphical features that might not even be able to run in the final release. That isn't being honest, that is hyping support for your game before you are sure you can deliver. There is a reason why many developers keep quiet about their games, and I think that is something this particular developer is learning now.

23fps isn't actually bad. There are plenty of 360 and PS3 games that hover around this. However for a racing game it ruins the control and responsiveness which is why they aren't happy to put it out. It could still look very good especially in replays.
