I is definitely a play for the software and patents, which is a pretty smart play. Blackberry offers nothing by way of mobile phone or tablet hardware market. In the mobile area MS is strongest in enterprise rather than consumer, and what Blackberry offers in the enterprise are with software and patents strengthens MS's hand.
