Both Sony and Microsoft made the mistake to release their biggest IP very late for their seventh gen systems which in turn ruled out that these IPs would be able to arrive in the eighth gen systems' first year. The difference is that Sony won't have to pay for this mistake because Microsoft messed up so badly with their Xbox One vision that Sony got celebrated for their PS4 despite putting online multiplayer behind a paywall. But back to the PS3 lineup for 2013, it was really a waste for the most part. Microsoft had been coasting on third party support for about three years by then, so Sony wasn't in need of a lot of first party exclusives either; after all, they got all the same third party games too. Most of these resources should have been spent on getting the PSV and PS4 off the ground, although for the former it turned out that it wouldn't have really helped anyway, while for the latter it turned out that it wasn't needed. But looking at it purely from the angle of planning ahead, the PS3 shouldn't have received as much first party support as it did. |
Microsoft always charged for online in the first place thats why it didnt matter to people who bought a ps4
