Don't you think I looked up "GTAV bundle" before coming into a thread talking about GTAV?
Why are you so defensive? The person I responded to said Mario Kart was a "limited pack in" and I showed that it is still bundled to this day. Who said anything about games being less enjoyable? I don't care who made the game. But if being amongst the top selling games actually means "gave away 90% of the copies for free", then yea, I'm gonna dispute it because in order to be "top selling" you have to actually be sold. I have no doubt that, if it stays bundled for years to come, Sony will brag and say that TLOU:R sold 50M+ copies or reached 50M+ households, or whatever. And I'll say "so what" because inflated numbers due to giving the game away for free doesn't really mean anything. No, it's not "people paid for it, it's sold". PS4 has been $399 since launch. TLOU is now packed in and the console is still $399. Either way, in order to get a PS4, you gotta pay $399, but now it's a "sale" for TLOU? No! And I apply the same logic to every game that's bundled for free. Destiny bundles over the holiday when it was $399 (instead of $449)? Nope, you didn't pay for Destiny, you paid for a PS4 and Destiny was a freebie, so it's not a "sale". Titanfall bundle for $499 (pre-Kinect drop)? Nope, you didn't pay for Titanfall, you paid for an XBOne and Titanfall was a freebie, so it's not a "sale". Was FFXV: Episode Duscae "sold" to me when I bought FF Type 0 HD? When you generate 0 extra revenue because the extra product cost $0, it's not a sale. If I gave you my TV for free, I didn't "sell" it to you. It's not a difficult concept. It's the same reason why NPD doesn't factor in bundle sales in the monthly software charts. |
Actually I didn't check if it was stocked or not, I'll give you that. But I don't need to check much further to find one in stock: amazon.co.uk has a brand new bundle, PS4 GTA V + Witcher 3. But like I said it doesn't matter to the sales if it was bundled for long or not. As a matter of fact it's quite the opposite. Games are bundled, and stay bundled for as long as they're selling consoles. The best games are the bundled ones because people want those games and see it has the perfect opportunity to buy consoles, the games bundled sell consoles.
And on most examples you gave, I'm sorry to say you're wrong.
1) TLOU:R won't stay bundled for years to come, you know why? Because people won't buy it. They will look around and see the MGS5 bundle, or the new CoD, maybe for an extra 20 bucks, but they'll still prefer it over TLOU:R. Or even worse, they'll look around and see X1 bundled with Halo5 and Sony will have lost a sale.
2) The game isn't for free. As soon as the bundle is released that is a price cut implied or whatever you wanna call it.
3) Episode Duscae, now I don't even know why you brought this one up. This isn't a "free demo". This was a demo used to sell more FF Type 0 copies.
I think you don't understand how business works. Really, they don't give you freebies like you call it. These bundles are marketing strategies to try and get you to buy the games. Amzon.co.uk used to sell PS4+GTA V for 350, now they're selling it with Witcher 3 for 320. So now they're selling me they're selling the PS4 with GTA V for free and they even pay you 30 to get Witcher 3? or Witcher 3's sales won't count by your own standards?
Do you think they wanna give you games or do they bundle games to sell consoles? When a bundled game continues to sell consoles year after year, well that's the game's merit. Not a freebie. If that was the way you say it, then there's no ppoint in counting sales as almost all top selling games are bundled when they launch.
Personally the "bundle" excuse is the lamest excuse when discussing sales. It shows some people have a bad perspective about how consumerism works and how companies work.
