Do you have kids?

It's so easy and flawless to play together. My 3 year old likes to blow stuff up and set fires. (Usually have to ban him to a safe distance) My 5 year old likes to build stuff he's seen on you tube and is already experimenting with red stone. I build them a huge castle to explore with secret passage ways, indiana jones style redstone operated traps and a fully automated shooting range.

The best indies that I didn't know anything about were:

Closure: excellent puzzle game.
Fract: playing this on a projector was amazing, awesome 3D environment.
Knytt Underground: could not stop playing, great music and atmosphere.

I'm taking it as a perspective of being an adult.  You've got teens and adults who throw away thousands of hours, not just young children.  Didn't Pewdie Pie start off recording Minecraft videos?

It depends on what you want out of it. I actually liked mining and exploring long enough to get the platinum trophy, although I quickly turned the monsters off, and nowadays I only use creative mode. As a rpg game it's indeed pretty boring, plus any contraptions from a gameplay perspective are useless as you can mine through everything. Yet for messing around and quickly building stuff its great. It's very crude and could really use some better tools, but any other game where you can create things either has limitations or takes 10x longer to build something. To be fair Minecraft has limitations too, too much redstone in one place and it starts to become glitchy. Plus pretty idiotic to include monsters that blow up stuff and water that instantly washes away redstone and tracks. (Most of that has been fixed, monster griefing, TNT and fire can be turned off, however water is still as destructive as ever)

Some people throw away thousands of hours to shooting people online, some to creating all kinds of stuff with simple blocks and redstone circuits.
The latter sounds more interesting to me.

But sure as a game 6/10 at most, as a sandbox 9/10.
