It would've been an improvement but I don't think it would have won, it would have been another gamecube vs xbox situation with it mirroring X1 sales.

Nintendo would still have issues with branding, markting, online (which is a biggie). I think it would make more sense for it to remain a 2012 release, more or less on par with X1 and a preimum price, that would have garunteed it 2nd place.

I Agree with your sentiments regarding price, for whatever reason people think the success of Nintendo's home consoles (outside of Wii) is dependent on a cheap price, when it infact price seems to be irrelevant and did little for the gamecube. Nintendo consoles appeal first and foremost to hardcore gamers who love Nintendo, most of them would buy the system regardless of whether it was $200 or $400, if it had third party support+modern graphics lots of core gamers on the fence would go with Nintendo. Their IPs carry far more weight then anything sony or Microsoft can output. MarioKart/3D MArio+Zelda+Smash Bros >>> Halo+Gears+Forza pr Uncharted+Gran Turismo+GOW etc

This still wouldn't be enough to win because the masses who only buy 2-3 games per year (Fifa, COD etc) are not at all aligned to Nintendo's brand or their online presence. Its something that they could work on throughout the gen and would be aided by general success/popularity of the hardware but it would still prevent them from winning IMO. Depending on when the system was launched I think it would do between 40-60m.
