So, as well all know, THQ went under in 2013 and sold off all of their IPs and development studios. For example, the Warhammer 40,000 series and Relic Entertainment were sold to SEGA, the publishing rights of Evolve and the WWE series to Take-Two Interactive, Ubisoft acquired THQ Montreal and the rights to South Park: Stick of Truth, etc.
Now, Konami is certainly not going going bankrupt in the near future, as they are still quite successful in other sectors of business unrelated to gaming, such as gambling, arcade cabinets, toys, fitness clubs, anime, trading cards, etc. However, as they have decided to mainly focus on mobile gaming from now on, it might be in their best interest to sell some of their IPs that might be a bit too obscure for the mobile platform, as THQ was forced to.
Franchises such as Castlevania, Contra, Silent Hill and Suikoden might not be as appealing as others like Metal Gear, Dance Dance Revolution or Pro Evolution Soccer, and for this reason it could be better for Konami to simply cut their losses, gain profit from their absence and focus on their real money-makers rather than sitting on a pile of unused IPs for decades at a time.
What do you think? Would you like to see Konami do this? Do you think it would be a smart move for them, or would it hinder them more than anything?
