I disagree that the used market is bad for those developing the games.

For one it ensures that people purchasing the game know that once their done with it in the future the have some value remaining and can get something back, thus making purchasing a game a better value proposition.

Allows for people who might not be that interested in the title to pick it up for a discounted price possibly providing a fan for future purchases.

Ensures that games no longer being produced can be picked up by gamers in the future.

Provides the gamers trading them in with more money to purchase games that they might not have be able to afford which is good for all developers.

Second hand games not only benefit the developers in many real ways, but also boost the reputation of the developer itself. Many games are sold second hand on day one, these people obviously did not like the games and making it so they can;t get any value out of the game will only make them bitter towards the developer in the future.
