I suppose that means only people who know for sure they are going to like the game and put lots of hours into it will buy it. If you're on the fence it's best to avoid it because you won;t be able to trade it in or re-sell it if you try and decide you don't like it.
They could at least give you a 7 day trial period or 10 playing hours trial period. If you don't like it you can de-register the code/account within 7 days of first activation or before you get to 10 hours of play time and pass it on to someone who will like it. Unlike with SP games that you can finish within a very intense weekend most of the time a MMO is meant to be played for hundreds of hours, so a 7 day / 10 hour trial period means you won't get much out of the game before passing it on.
If this game sells gangbusters on consoles it won't be long before CoD, Fifa, Madden, Battlefield, Destiny, etc etc all follow suit and that will be the death of used / rental games and Sony and MS can bot say "What? It wasn't us! Blame them!" and point their fingers to the 3rd parties.
If on disc DRM becomes mainstream on Playstation I'm switching to Nintendo.
