Honestly, just like Kinect or Move/PSEye, I think all of these concepts have potential, it's really a matter of them being fully realized by the developers (and that the engineers made them accessible enough to realize said potential). I think VR has great application, and would essentially be far cheaper than a giant TV, and AR will have great application for engineering, UI interaction etc.. but, as I said, it's up to devs to show us that potential and why it's a must-have.
