Xbone is damned funny. Wii U is just bleh. It's better to have a funny name than a bleh name.

While Wii U's failure to connect with the market is, IMO somewhat down to the name, though only in a relatively minor way, whatever success Xb one is enjoying in the market (which lets face it is really only in the USA UK and a small handful of other minor markets) has almost nothing to do with the name; other than the fact that for 3 generations in a row people have been trained to recognise Xbox as being the name of the Microsoft console, so there is familiarity. OTOH if MS had revealed Xb one without DRM shenanigans, and if it had put out a with Kinect sku ($499) and a without Kinect sku ($399) then I ythink it would be enjoying relative success in more countries than it is now.

Who knows what would have happened if Wii U came out without a gamepad at $250, and went for the pretty simple package of "NOW with HD games" and Wiimotion plus right out of the gate? The name might not have stood in the way of success at all and it could have been the market leader for the second generation running.
