"The Xbox division boss commented that while an Xbox One/HoloLens union could happen somewhere down the line, the real aim was to make the device a viable piece of tech in its own right."

Translation: We hope to make more money in the professional sector as a premium high cost device.

"We haven’t publicly talked about what those are, but you can imagine, as we continue to drive and get success with HoloLens, those scenarios will become obvious and developers will take advantage of them.”

  • Translation: We don't know what games will actually work with this, it will be as limited as Kinect games.

Not true. Pretty much any game could be built to use holo lens. Not just motion ones lol kinect

And what would holo lens do? You would have to look away from the tv to see the holograms due to the narrow fov. It won't work like Illumiroom. That kinda makes any games that use both tv and hololens gimmicks.

You can ofcourse play any game on hololens using it as a tv, yet what's the point?

So you're left to specially build games that play in the environment you have to scan all the time to follow what's going on. That really only makes it suited to simple games that play out right in front of you.
It will still be very cool to play Sega's time traveller on your table or any fighting game.
Captain Toad's treasure tracker like games would work. Tumble or other block stacking puzzle games.
Yet full immersive open world games, the games people keep coming back to, are not suited to it.
