Damn, not only do I completely disagree but I can't comprehend your stance at all. So you need to be burdened with needless camera controls in a game to be wowed by the scale? So I'm guessing films can't wow you with scale either?
You need to lose the amazing in-game cinematography that only automated cameras fine-tuned by professionals can offer in exchange for the ability to look away from the centre of attention just to appreciate scale?.... :S
And the bolded is just nonsense, there's no reason to let things you can't see affect how you feel. At the end of the day It's your opinion so as perplexed as I am, I won't argue about it.
God of War III's scale is unmatched for me:

I don't disagree with most of what you're saying but none of that seems to work quite as well to me in video games as it does in movies. Movies have a very high level of visuals to compenate for the lack of taking control. I never said it's not appreciable, but fixed camera is my least preferable option of the two as far as gaming goes.
The immersion in movies is lacking in comparison to video games. That element, to me, directly affects my appreciation to scale. It's not something I can choose.. it's how I feel. A well directed game with superior visuals can have a far greater sense of scale than one that gives you control but makes blunders at other aspects. There is a certain balance that has to be reached for the scale to actually "hit" you. God of War delivers at that! but not as breathtakingly as Shadow of The Colossus. Some moments in SoTC literally made me feel like I'm there! The game draws me in much more effectively than God of War. That amplifies the sense of scale.

Which God Of War game are you talking about? I think God Of War III and Ascension offer set pieces on par or more impressive than in most movies.
Well we have different definitions of scale and none of us is wrong here. I think both games belong to this list, but I think God Of War III is more deserving of it.
