However, I don't think MS wants to risk cutting the XBO's price to $200 in the face of a $300 PS4. The losses could end up being unacceptable. Even if it did when, it'd be a Pyrrhic victory as the losses sustained from too deep of a price cut too soon could seriously damage the prospects of Xbox continuing to be a thing after this generation. I think they'd rather take the loss sales-wise in the U.S. and make some profit than win the U.S. but have the system be a net loser money-wise over the course of the generation. |
I would also like to add that the PS4 actually beat the XBO in the UK for the holiday season. The XBO outsold the PS4 in November, but the PS4 outsold the XBO by a greater amount in December. The XBO's best chance to win a country is the US, but as you said, it's going to be extremely costly to the point that it won't be worth it.
